As the Health Safety and Adviser, I will support and work with the Health Safety and Compliance Manager to provide specialised support to the client.
To ensure the organisation(s) complies with current health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance, in relation to the health, safety and welfare of its employees and other affected by its business activity.
To provide a technical advice resource and service to residents and other client departments and group members, while working to ensure that our residents are at the heart of our service, in line with our community gateway model.
Maintain the occupational health and safety policy and the OHSAS 18001 accredited management system for the client’s Repairs Service.
Implement the migration to ISO 45001, establishing and maintaining this management system to achieve the associated accreditation.
Be a competent source of health safety and compliance advice implementing, monitoring and reviewing health and safety policies and procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.
Analyse occupational health and safety hazards and select and maintain appropriate controls. Following on from this, establish procedures to identify hazards and assess organisational risk. Improve and maintain hazard identification and risk assessment methods and procedures.
Take steps to ensure all those with health and safety responsibilities within the organisation are aware of what they and deliver what is expected.
Play a prominent role in the business of the health and safety committee. Monitor and measure occupational health and safety performance. This means preparing health and safety reports, statistical data, performance data and preparing reports to the Health and Safety Committee and other meetings as required.
Assist in implementing solutions to measure and enhance health and safety performance.
Implement operational occupational health and safety control measures – collate and analyse statistics and recommend intervention strategies with a view to reducing risk of future health and safety occurrences.
Conduct and undertake internal audits and workplace inspections of operations to proactively identify where health and safety management practices can be improved and provide guidance where necessary.
Ensure that any sub-contractors are suitably selected, managed and ensuring they have in place appropriate health and safety arrangements – participating in tender evaluation and contract selection processes as required.
Review and implement the health and safety communication plans and develop, maintain and execute a health and safety communications plan.
Establish and/or review health and safety work plans, objectives and programs. Maintaining plans that will help drive continuous improvements.
Advise and provide guidance to People Services (HR) to develop job-specific health and safety training matrix and programmes, so that they can maintain the appropriate records.
Support Project managers and administrators are implementing and maintaining the appropriate occupational health and safety documents.
Establish an occupational health and safety emergency management process, liaising with emergency services, as necessary, regarding the preparation and execution of emergency planning procedures.
Evaluate legal and non-legal compliance by providing an accurate and clear interpretation of health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and best practice guidance to the organisation, it’s contractors, staff and residents. Ensuring changes to the above are effectively and timeously communicated.
Investigate actions and take remedial action by carrying out investigations and reporting accidents, incidences and dangerous occurrences as necessary.
Be familiar with and act at all times in compliance with the client’s values, policies, procedures, standing orders and financial regulations.
Carry out other duties within the scope and spirit of the job, and in accordance with the level of the post, as required.
