JOB TITLE: Quantity Surveyor
REPORTS TO: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Director
DEPARTMENT: Logistics and Construction BASED: Watford
Quantity Surveyor – Upto 50k – Watford
JOB PURPOSE: To provide assistance to the Logistics and Construction Solutions commercial department at head office reporting to and working closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor/Managing Director.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Estimating – Attending pre and post tender meetings with Senior Quantity Surveyor/MD. – Review enquiries received and raise RFI’s where necessary. – Prepare tender submissions for MD’s review/approval including comprehensive clarifications where appropriate.
CVR/JPR & Cash Flow – Assist with producing weekly and monthly cost/income forecasts. – Assist with monthly CVR/JPR and cost analysis of projects through the project life cycle. – Produce monthly income and cost liabilities within CVR/JPR. – Review weekly costs and timesheets against tender allowances. – Chase up payments due from Clients by working closely with credit control.
Contract Review – Review and provide comments/advice on the terms and conditions of contract received from the Client both at tender stage and contract award. – Negotiate the terms and conditions of contract with the Client to minimise client risk. – Update the supplier and subcontract terms and conditions to minimise McGinley’s risk and where appropriate ensure terms are “back to back” with the main contract.
Applications & Variations – Produce measures, valuations and prepare applications for payment. – Attend regular meetings with the Client’s surveyors for each project. – Prepare and submit variation notifications, quotations and the like in accordance with the contract conditions and manage the variation process. – Obtain instructions from the Client to cover all and any variations raised. – Undertake the contract administration in accordance with the agreed terms. – Discuss and conclude variations with the Client’s surveyor for each project. – Prepare and maintain a histogram for labour/plant on each project. – Prepare and negotiate final accounts.
SECONDARY DUTIES
Subcontracts & Suppliers – Managing suppliers and subcontractors. – Prepare and maintain schedule of payments for subcontractors. – Draft and issue enquiries to suppliers/subcontractors and analyse tenders received. – Procurement of suppliers and subcontractors including raising of purchase orders. – Work with accounts to resolve invoice and supplier queries.
ESSENTIAL – To have a Quantity Surveying or Construction related degree. – Ability to work within a team. – Ability to work under pressure, in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines. – Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. – IT literate, with particular emphasis in Microsoft Excel, Work and Outlook. – Excellent attention to detail. – Strong commercial awareness. – Extensive experience with various forms of JCT contract.
DESIRABLE – Full, clean driving license and car. – Previous experience in the construction industry of a similar role for a subcontractor.
