Gas Engineer
South London | Permanent | 40 hours per week
£49,908 basic, with potential total earnings around £62,000 including on-call payments
We are recruiting an experienced Gas Engineer for a permanent position with a well-established housing provider in South London.
This is a varied domestic gas role combining day-to-day servicing, maintenance and fault finding with full boiler and central heating installations. The successful engineer must have solid experience across both sides of the position and be genuinely happy to undertake a mixture of maintenance and installation work.
This will particularly suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in completing work properly and is comfortable dealing directly with residents in occupied homes.
The role
Working across properties in South London, you will provide a reliable and professional domestic gas service. Your workload will include planned and responsive maintenance alongside complete boiler and central heating installations.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Domestic gas servicing, repairs and maintenance
- Fault finding and first-time-fix repairs
- Full boiler and central heating installations
- Commissioning and remedial works
- Gas safety checks
- Associated plumbing work
- Working safely and respectfully in occupied properties
- Communicating clearly and professionally with residents
A key requirement for this vacancy is proven experience in both gas maintenance and servicing and full boiler installations. Applications from engineers whose experience or preference is limited to only one of these areas will not be suitable.
About you
You will need to demonstrate strong practical experience in domestic gas work, including:
- Servicing, maintenance, repairs and fault diagnosis
- Completing full boiler installations
- Installing and commissioning central heating systems
- Undertaking remedial and associated plumbing work
- Delivering a considerate service in residents’ homes
- Managing a varied workload across multiple properties
You must be willing to participate in an on-call rota of one week in four.
Salary, on-call payments and benefits
The basic salary is £49,908 per year. With standby and call-out payments, total earnings could be around £62,000, although this is indicative and will depend on the number of call-outs undertaken.
The on-call arrangements include:
- One week in four on call
- £50 standby payment per day, Monday to Friday
- £75 standby payment per day, Saturday and Sunday
- £20 per weekday call-out
- £25 per weekend call-out
