Interim Fire Safety Surveyor
£460.40 per day Umbrella/Ltd | South East | Interim Contract
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Fire Safety Surveyor to join the dedicated Fire Safety team of a large, established housing provider managing a substantial portfolio of homes across the South East.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong fire safety professional to take responsibility for overseeing fire risk assessment activity, identifying and addressing fire safety defects, and ensuring works are delivered safely, compliantly and to a high standard.
The Role
As an Interim Fire Safety Surveyor, you will oversee fire safety surveying and remedial works across East and West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing fire risk assessment activities and ensuring works are completed within required timescales.
- Inspecting properties and assessing fire safety defects, deficiencies and remedial requirements.
- Developing remedial proposals and producing detailed specifications for works.
- Carrying out pre- and post-inspections and quality control checks.
- Monitoring contractors to ensure works are completed safely, correctly and in accordance with RAMS and relevant legislation.
- Carrying out Health & Safety spot checks and pursuing any necessary remedial action.
- Ensuring properties meet statutory, regulatory and organisational fire safety requirements.
- Working with residents, leaseholders, managing agents, property owners and internal teams to deliver a high standard of service.
- Supporting effective contract management across SOR and non-SOR works.
Working Arrangements
- Approx. 3–4 days per week on site, with the remainder working from home or an office.
- Weekly attendance at the Horsham office.
- Monthly attendance at the Farringdon office for team meetings.
- Regular travel across East & West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.
- Occasional day trips or overnight stays may be required for inspections on the Isle of Wight.
About You
You will be an experienced Fire Safety Surveyor with a strong background in a housing maintenance environment and hands-on experience carrying out inspections and overseeing remedial works.
You will have:
- Previous experience as a Fire Safety Surveyor, including pre- and post-inspections.
- NEBOSH Fire or equivalent qualification.
- Strong working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- Experience working with contractors across SOR and non-SOR contracts.
- Experience producing detailed specifications of work.
- Strong knowledge of current building regulations, fire safety standards, codes of practice and Health & Safety legislation.
- In-depth knowledge of construction, building design, fire safety defects and appropriate remedial solutions.
- Experience of contract management.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Desirable: Membership of RICS, CIOB, IFE or a similar professional body.
