Description
We are recruiting for an experienced Housing Regulatory Assurance Officer to support a Housing Directorate through a period of regulatory focus and service improvement. This is a key assurance role, providing confidence that housing services are compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement across the service.
You will lead on quality assurance activity, identify areas of risk or non-compliance, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to implement robust improvement plans. The role suits someone confident operating in complex local authority environments, comfortable balancing regulatory rigour with a resident-focused approach.
Contract: 3-6 month temporary contract to permanent (for the right individual)
Location: Oxford | 2 days in office, 3 days from home
Pay: £23.84 per hour PAYE / £29.29 per hour via Umbrella
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate housing regulatory compliance and assurance activity across housing services
- Provide expert advice on housing regulation, consumer standards and statutory requirements
- Develop, implement and monitor service improvement and remediation plans
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefings and presentations for senior leaders, members and other stakeholders
- Use performance data and benchmarking to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement
- Hold services to account while working collaboratively to improve outcomes for residents
- Support inspection readiness and ongoing regulatory engagement where required

About You
- Strong knowledge of housing regulation, including consumer standards and wider housing legislation
- Proven experience working within social housing and/or local authority environments
- Background in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, service improvement or performance management
- Excellent analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills
- Confident communicator, able to engage with residents, officers and senior stakeholders
- Organised, resilient and comfortable managing multiple priorities
Desirable:
- Experience supporting or leading regulatory inspections
- Professional housing qualification or working towards one
