Pay: Equivalent to £52,781.93 per annum, with day-rate arrangements considered based on experience
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Predominantly home-based, with site visits as and when required. A North London office is available for technical support when needed.

The opportunity

An experienced Fire Risk Assessor is required to join the organisation’s Fire Safety Team on an interim basis.

You will undertake suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments, identify fire-related risks and provide clear, practical recommendations for remedial action. Working with operational teams and other fire-safety professionals, you will help ensure that significant risks are prioritised and resolved effectively.

This is an excellent opportunity to make an immediate contribution to resident safety while working with a varied and sometimes complex property portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake fire risk assessments, inspections and audits in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Assess residential premises, supported schemes, commercial properties, workplaces and other buildings across the organisation’s estate.
• Identify significant fire-safety findings and clearly specify the remedial works required, avoiding generic recommendations.
• Post-inspect completed remedial actions where necessary.
• Prioritise and support the resolution of risks involving serious or imminent danger.
• Provide advice on building evacuation strategies and recommend changes where appropriate.
• Produce accurate, high-quality reports and ensure they are uploaded promptly to the relevant management system.
• Work collaboratively with housing, asset management, development, care and support, operational teams and contractors.
• Liaise with professional bodies, including Building Control and the Fire Service.
• Monitor changes to legislation, guidance, codes of practice and fire-safety procedures.
• Analyse fire-safety information and recommend preventative measures to reduce risk. 

About you

You will be an experienced fire-safety professional who can work independently, communicate confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and deliver robust assessments within tight timescales.

You should have:

• Extensive experience completing high-quality fire risk assessments across a diverse property portfolio, including high-risk or complex buildings.
• Current independent professional accreditation or third-party certification aligned with FRACC competency criteria, such as Warrington, IFE or IFSM certification.
• A NEBOSH Fire Certificate, or an equivalent qualification.
• Detailed knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Experience interpreting complex fire-safety solutions and contributing to fire strategies.
• An understanding of significant findings and experience supporting the practical completion of remedial works, ideally within social housing.
• The ability to provide clear, accurate and timely technical advice.
• Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
• The ability to organise competing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• A full driving licence. 

Desirable experience

It would be advantageous to have:

• Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers at MIFireE level, or equivalent.
• Experience working across a multi-site residential, property, construction, facilities or service-delivery environment.
• Knowledge of LACORS Housing Fire Safety, PAS 79, Building Regulations Approved Document B, guidance for purpose-built blocks of flats and specialised housing guidance.
• Experience responding to enforcement notices.
• Knowledge of fire-engineered solutions and their contribution to fire strategies.
