We’re partnering with one of the UK’s leading housing providers - an organisation known for its strong social purpose, investment in safe, sustainable homes, and commitment to delivering high-quality services to residents. They manage a significant and diverse property portfolio across the South East and are now seeking experienced Maintenance Surveyors to support their responsive repairs, voids, and planned maintenance programmes across London or Hertfordshire.
The Role
As a Maintenance Surveyor, you will play a key role in ensuring homes remain safe, compliant, and of a high standard. You’ll be responsible for diagnosing building defects, specifying works, managing contractors, and overseeing repairs from instruction through to completion. This is a technically involved role that requires strong surveying expertise and confidence working autonomously.
Key responsibilities include:
- Inspecting properties, diagnosing defects, and preparing detailed specifications
- Managing responsive repairs, void works, and planned maintenance
- Carrying out pre-, mid-, and post-works inspections and audits
- Ensuring contractor performance, value for money, and compliance with standards
- Supporting residents, managing expectations, and ensuring excellent customer outcomes
- Minimising disrepair risk and supporting cases with technical input
- Maintaining accurate asset and stock condition information
- Ensuring works meet regulatory and safety requirements at all times
What They’re Looking For
Strong technical capability is essential, along with experience in social housing repairs or building maintenance.
Locations: London or Hertfordshire – Hybrid working
Day Rates: £300–£375 per day (depending on qualifications – see below)
Contract: Interim
Qualification & Rate Structure:
- £375/day – Fully qualified Building Surveyors (MRICS, MCIOB, or equivalent)
- £350/day – Degree or HND in Building Surveying or related discipline + relevant experience
- £300/day – Experienced surveyors without formal qualifications who can demonstrate strong technical capability and an active professional pathway (e.g., working toward RICS/CIOB)
Candidates without an HND, degree, or recognised professional route will not be considered above £300/day.
About You
- Strong technical knowledge of building pathology, repair diagnostics, and construction
- Experience in responsive repairs, planned maintenance, or voids
- Ability to work independently, manage a busy caseload, and meet deadlines
- Confident engaging with residents and contractors
- Understanding of social housing standards and landlord obligations
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle recommended
Working Arrangements
- Office base in Wembley or Hertford
- Hybrid working available
- Travel required across a local patch
