Repairs Officer Location: London
Contract: Five months with potential extension
Hours: Full-time
Rate: £19.54 PAYE / £25.84
Working arrangement: Initially office-based full-time, with three days per week considered once fully trained
We are looking for an organised and customer-focused Repairs Officer to support the effective delivery of a busy housing repairs service.
This is a varied role involving regular contact with residents, RLOs, contractors and internal colleagues. You will oversee the progress of repairs, keep residents informed and help ensure that work is completed promptly, safely and to the required standard.
General repairs experience is essential. Experience of disrepair cases would be a strong advantage.
The role You will coordinate and progress day-to-day repairs through internal systems, taking proactive action to prevent delays and escalating complex cases where necessary. You will act as a key point of contact for residents and contractors, making sure that enquiries, decisions and updates are recorded accurately.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring repairs from initial report through to completion
- Speaking with residents and providing clear, timely updates
- Liaising with RLOs, contractors, inspectors and internal teams
- Booking post-inspections and following up on outstanding work
- Using internal systems and spreadsheets to maintain accurate records
- Reviewing completed work against agreed specifications
- Supporting the review of quotations, variations and contractor requests
- Helping to ensure repairs meet agreed performance targets and KPIs
- Assisting with invoice checks and confirming that work has been completed
- Providing repair performance information and administrative support
- Following up with residents to confirm satisfaction with completed repairs
- Identifying complex cases and escalating concerns appropriately
- Supporting compliance with health and safety, building safety and relevant housing requirements
About you You must have previous experience working with general repairs, ideally within housing, property services or a similar customer-focused environment.
You will also need:
- Experience of developing or running effective administrative processes
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience in a busy customer service environment
- Confidence communicating with residents, contractors and colleagues
- Experience working towards service targets or KPIs
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
- A customer-focused and dependable approach
- Good spoken and written English
- Effective IT skills, including Microsoft Office, systems and spreadsheets
- An understanding of relevant statutory, regulatory and health and safety requirements
Previous experience of responsive repairs or disrepair work would be particularly useful.
The position will initially require full-time office attendance. Once you are fully trained, an arrangement involving three days per week may be considered.
