Gas Contracts Manager
Location: London
Contract: Initial 6 months
Salary: Equivalent to circa £70,000 per annum
The Opportunity
We are working with a major London local authority responsible for delivering essential housing and property services to its residents. With a substantial residential portfolio and a strong focus on resident safety, regulatory compliance and value for money, the organisation is seeking an experienced Gas Contracts Manager to oversee the delivery and compliance of its gas services contract.
The role will cover approximately 10,000 residential properties under the direct and indirect management of the Council, ensuring that gas servicing, maintenance and associated works are delivered safely, compliantly, to a high standard and within agreed budgets.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing compliance professional to take ownership of a critical service area within a busy local authority environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take operational responsibility for the effective management and delivery of the gas services contract across a portfolio of approximately 10,000 residential homes.
- Ensure full compliance with relevant gas safety legislation, statutory requirements and industry regulations relating to residential properties.
- Monitor contractor performance, ensuring all servicing, maintenance, remedial works and associated activities are completed to the required standards and within agreed timescales.
- Manage contract expenditure, budgets and financial performance, ensuring value for money without compromising safety or quality.
- Oversee risk management, identifying compliance gaps and implementing effective mitigation and remedial action.
- Maintain accurate compliance records, certification, reporting systems and audit trails to demonstrate statutory compliance.
- Undertake quality assurance checks and audits, challenging underperformance and driving continuous improvement.
- Develop effective working relationships with contractors, internal stakeholders and housing teams to support the successful delivery of the compliance programme.
- Monitor relevant legislation and regulatory developments, ensuring contractual arrangements and operational practices remain up to date.
- Contribute to the development of effective compliance programmes, performance monitoring and risk management strategies.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and technically knowledgeable contracts professional with a strong track record of managing gas compliance and delivering effective services within a residential housing environment.
Essential experience and skills:
- Extensive knowledge of gas safety legislation, regulations and compliance requirements relating to residential properties.
- Demonstrable experience managing gas servicing, maintenance or compliance contracts, ideally within a local authority or housing association.
- A proven ability to manage contractors and ensure works are completed safely, to a high standard, within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Strong commercial awareness, with experience of budget management, cost control and contract performance monitoring.
- Experience of managing compliance risks, identifying gaps and implementing effective solutions.
- Strong understanding of compliance reporting, certification, audit requirements and performance data.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge contractors and drive accountability.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to take ownership and make an immediate impact.
Candidates with additional strong electrical compliance experience alongside their gas expertise are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience within social housing, a local authority or a housing association is highly desirable.
