Description
West London | £400 per day | 6-month initial contract | Hybrid working
We are recruiting a Surveyor for a 6-month contract to join a leading and large housing provider, that manages more than 58,000 homes across London to Devon.
This is a practical, customer-facing role focused on diagnosing property defects, resolving repair issues and helping to ensure homes remain safe, warm and well maintained.
Working across West London, you will inspect properties, provide clear technical advice and recommend appropriate, value-for-money solutions. You will support cases ranging from day-to-day building defects to disrepair claims, planned maintenance and more complex works.
The role combines technical surveying with regular contact with residents, colleagues, contractors and external specialists. You will need to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities and approach sensitive property issues with empathy and sound professional judgement.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting repair requests, building defects and property condition issues.
- Diagnosing technical problems and recommending suitable remedial work.
- Investigating disrepair cases and preparing written housing condition reports where required.
- Providing technical support in connection with disrepair and legal claims.
- Preparing schedules of work and supporting the management of minor and major works.
- Liaising with operational teams, trade colleagues, subcontractors, consultants and external contractors.
- Obtaining quotations for repairs and specialist works when required.
- Assessing Disabled Facilities Grant applications and inspecting associated work.
- Supporting customer permission and retrospective permission requests.
- Assisting with internal and external planned maintenance programmes.
- Inspecting building components and advising on replacement priorities.
- Monitoring work to help maintain statutory compliance, quality and value for money.
- Maintaining accurate records and delivering a professional, customer-focused service.
What we are looking for:
You must have experience in building surveying, building maintenance or a closely related property environment. You will also need a relevant degree, HNC or HND in Building Surveying, or an equivalent construction-related qualification.
The role requires someone who can investigate defects, reach practical technical decisions and explain those decisions clearly. You should be able to manage a varied workload, work effectively under pressure and build constructive relationships with residents and professional stakeholders.
You will also need:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective teamwork, networking and negotiation skills.
- A commercially aware approach with a focus on value for money.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- An appreciation of property or maintenance management systems.
- The ability to travel efficiently to properties and meetings, including locations that may not be easily reached by public transport.
- A willingness to complete a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors would be advantageous but is not essential.
If you have the technical surveying experience, qualification and customer focus needed to improve housing conditions, please apply with your latest CV.
