Data Compliance Officer – Interim Contract
£34.42 per hour Umbrella | 5-6 months | Hybrid | 35 hours per week
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Data Compliance Officer to join a leading London housing organisation on an initial 5–6 month interim contract.
The organisation sits within the G15 – the collective voice of London’s largest housing associations. G15 members are 11 independent, not-for-profit housing providers collectively managing more than 880,000 homes and housing around one in ten Londoners, with a significant role in delivering social and affordable housing across the capital.
The Role
This is a high-level interim opportunity providing additional capacity within the Data Protection function while the permanent team structure is considered.
Reporting to the Data Protection Lead, you will play a key role in ensuring strong compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, providing practical advice and support across the organisation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and responding to Subject Access Requests (SARs) within agreed timescales.
- Investigating data breaches and security incidents, including supporting ICO reporting where required.
- Maintaining and developing Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) across a large and complex housing operation.
- Supporting and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), data sharing agreements and action plans.
- Acting as a key point of contact for data protection advice and guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Maintaining data protection logs, registers and compliance records.
- Producing compliance statistics, performance information and reports for senior management.
- Supporting audits, identifying risks and helping business areas deliver agreed actions.
- Developing guidance and delivering GDPR/data protection training across the organisation.
- Working closely with Information Data Owners and wider business teams to embed best practice.
About You
We're looking for an experienced data protection professional who can hit the ground running in a complex organisation.
You should have:
- Solid experience working within a data protection/compliance function.
- Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Practical experience handling SARs, data breaches and DPIAs.
- The ability to provide clear, practical advice to stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent investigation, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing reports.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Experience working with compliance logs, registers and performance data.
Experience within housing/social housing would be advantageous, alongside experience delivering GDPR training and knowledge of information governance. A relevant data protection/GDPR qualification such as ISEB/GDPR Practitionerwould also be desirable.

Working pattern: Hybrid – 2 days office-based (Monday & Wednesday), 3 days remote
