Home Ownership Officer
Location: East London (1 day per week in the office, 4 days working from home)
Contract: Temporary, Ongoing
Hours: 36 hours per week
Rate: £23.14 per hour Umbrella (£33,340.32 per annum equivalent)
We're recruiting on behalf of a large and well-established London local authority with a significant housing portfolio, committed to delivering high-quality housing services and supporting thriving communities.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team in a flexible hybrid role, offering just one day per week in the office and the remainder working from home.
The Role
As a Home Ownership Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate calculation, billing and recovery of homeowner charges while providing expert advice and support to leaseholders, shared owners and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Calculate, notify and bill estimated and actual service charges, including major works, shared ownership rent and ground rent in line with lease agreements and relevant legislation.
- Undertake Section 20 consultations under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 (as amended), ensuring full legislative compliance.
- Provide guidance and advice to leaseholders, shared owners and colleagues on service charges, major works, lease obligations and associated legislation.
- Investigate and resolve enquiries, disputes and complaints relating to service charges and major works.
- Work closely with Income Collection Officers to maximise recovery of homeowner rents, service charges, major works charges and other related income, helping to maintain the Housing Revenue Account (HRA).
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all calculations and communications are completed to a high standard.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience working within a Home Ownership, Leasehold or Service Charge role.
- Strong knowledge of leasehold legislation, including Section 20 consultation requirements.
- Experience calculating and administering service charges and major works billing.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to manage challenging enquiries professionally.
- Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
- Experience working within social housing or a local authority environment is highly desirable.
